Tonight I did possibly the most fatherly thing I think I have ever done, I showed my girlfriend’s sixteen-year-old son how to tie a tie. Even though he has never referred to me as his dad or stepdad, and I have never referred to him as my son, it was a wonderful moment that I was able to do something his dad probably would never have done.
I’m the one he wants to show his exam results and school reports to. I’m the one he was excitedly waiting for so he could show me what he is going to wear to his school-leaving BBQ next week. I can’t imagine how it would feel to miss out on these kinds of moments from my own son or daughter.
He of course ruined the moment when I realised that he had wiped a bit of blood on the ceiling in the front room.
Bloody kids!
There was much cheering and whooping in my house today as the Met League announced the dates for their series of cross country races. The first race isn’t until October, so hopefully, things might have calmed down a bit more before then.
I know people will label me as insane for looking forward to running around muddy hills in freezing rain, and they are absolutely right!
Bring it on!
