Is It Cheap To Give Discounted Jewellery?

I have never really been one to do the whole birthday thing these days but when I did I always wondered about what to get various people. I guess getting them a music CD as a present gets boring after a while.

But what about jewellery? Everyone likes receiving jewellery as a present. But what if the piece of jewellery in question was purchased at a discounted price? Does that diminish the value of the piece?

Can you even tell whether a piece of jewellery is discount jewellery or would you only know if you were told it was discount? If someone gave you discounted jewellery would you think that person was very cheap?

My mum’s husband bought my brother some gold one year that turned his neck green, was that discount or just plain fake?
