Celebrities are well-known for their lavish lifestyles and crazy behaviour; when you have all the money in the world, you have to spend it on something. Many famous people are spending some of their (hard earned?) cash on luxurious homes. These places have everything you can imagine, and some things you’ve never thought of. Jacuzzis, swimming pools, recording studios, huge garages and basketball courts are just some of the amenities that are standard equipment in celebrity homes. As amazing as they all are, some stand out above the crowd. Here are the top five most outrageous celebrity abodes.
Bill Gates: As the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates has more money than he could ever spend in a lifetime. Therefore, it’s no surprise that his home is a tech geek’s paradise. The almost $150 million home, owned by Gates and his wife Melinda, is located in Medina, Washington. It has a full library, as well as a Windows-run server that operates most of the home’s systems. With a home like that, why would he want to ever leave it?
Oprah Winfrey: She has the classic rags-to-riches story- Oprah has definitely made a name for herself. She owns multiple pieces of property, one of which is her immense (23,000 square foot) home in Santa Barbara, California. Known as Hearst Castle, it’s nestled back into a forest and has a private lake. The home has six bedrooms with Victorian doors, fourteen baths, ten fireplaces, and a full home theater.
Joel Horowitz: If the name doesn’t ring a bell, you’re not alone. Horowitz is one of the founders of the Tommy Hilfiger line; his home Tranquillity is located in the Lake Tahoe region of Nevada. It’s 20,000 square feet in size, and has an indoor pool, theater, wine cellar, and nine bedrooms. It also has a private lake, and is valued at over $100 million.
Hugh Hefner: The Playboy Mansion is the adult magazine founder’s home, but all notoriety aside, it’s a luxurious place to stay. Located in Los Angeles, the 82-year-old home has 29 rooms, internal oak doors, a zoo, a game room, a wine cellar, and the infamous Grotto. The mansion is one of the most famous celebrity homes, and every year Hefner hosts many events there.
Richard Branson: If you’ve ever watched “Cribs” on MTV, you’ve seen the opulent house on Branson’s private Necker Island. Located in the British Virgin Islands, there are actually two homes on the property. Every room is open to the elements, and there are two private beaches, multiple pools, tennis courts, and enough room for 28 guests to live comfortably. There’s even a chef on call! One of the neatest things about Necker Island is that it can be rented- at the princely sum of $47,000 per day.
There’s no denying that celebrities live in a different world from the rest of us, and the opulence of their homes is a testament to that fact. From private islands to full zoos, celeb homes have amenities that most of us can only dream of having. We hope this list hasn’t made you too jealous!
