Days left till holiday: 83!

Some of you with a rather keen eye may have noticed that there is now a little lttle image with “Email This Post” that appears at the top of every post on my blog. This is a new feature that I added last week it will enable you to send a post to a friend with just a few clicks.

So if you like a post then spread the word and email it to a friend, family member or even an enemy if you really hate my blog. :-)

Wordpress 2.3.3 Update

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 | Technology with No Comments »

Wordpress has released an urgent update to their awesome bloging software.

The update (2.3.3) fixes a major security hole in the XML-RPC and also someminor security fixes to other elements of the script.

'If you have registration enabled a flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow a user to edit posts of other users on that blog. In addition to fixing this security flaw, 2.3.3 fixes a few minor bugs. If you are interested only in the security fix, download the fixed version of xmlrpc.php and copy it over your existing xmlrpc.php. Otherwise, you can get the entire release here.

Also, there is a vulnerability in the WP-Forum plugin that is being actively exploited right now. If you are using this plugin, please remove it until an update is available from its author.

Since we are talking security, remember to use strong passwords and change them regularly. While you’re updating WP and your plugins, consider refreshing your passwords.'

If you have not done so already then I strongly urge you to update your blog to the latest version.

Also I would recommend changing your password. Thi is a good idea anyway to do every couple of months or so. I do this and it will make it harder for people to guess your password if you change it often.

Wordpress 2.3.2 Released

Monday, December 31st, 2007 | Technology with No Comments »

Wordpress recently released an urgent security update to their 2.3 series. Apparently the latest release fixes a bug that can be used to expose your draft posts. This is a pretty big security risk, how they managed miss this in the past is beyond me!

2.3.2 also fixes a security error that allows people to see your database information. But apparentlly that is not important, what is important is that if you upgrade then you will be able to define a custom DB error page.

If you use Wordpress then you should really upate to keep your blog as up to date and secure as possible …. well until Wordpress realise that they left out another huge security issue.

Firefox Sucks!

Friday, December 14th, 2007 | Technology with No Comments »

I am fully aware that saying that out loud will quite possibly get me hung drawn and quartered within some internet communities, but please hear me out before you start hunting for my address to come and get me.

I happily admit that Firefox is a better browser than Internet Explorer but there are at least two things that Internet Explorer can do that Firefox seemingly can not.

Bookmark Issue

In the three months I have been using Firefox I have had my bookmark list mysteriously wiped every couple of days. This is highly annoying as I often stumble across sites and bookmark them for future reference.

This is not some awesome feature, this is a major glitch that has not yet been addressed.

RAM Hog

Next time you open a new window check how much memory Firefox uses, I currently have a window open and it is taking over 71,000k. Internet Explorer will take 20,000-25,000 at the most.

This is meant to be a leaner meaner browser, so why does it need around two and a half times more memory to run than Internet Explorer?

Not nice if you are running on a low RAM PC.

I know a lot of you who love Firefox will be telling me about the awesome pop-up ad blocker and such other add-ons but I am seriously thinking about moving back to Internet Explorer, at east with IE I will not keep losing my bookmarked sites every couple of days.

Interesting Search Term On Google

Thursday, December 13th, 2007 | Technology with No Comments »

I use a plugin on this blog that allows me to see from which sites my traffic is coming from. It is a very handy little plugin that I will be including in a forthcoming post about essential plugins for a blog.

Today I saw that two searches had been made on the Canadian version of the Google website and my blog came up as the second entry in their search results.

What was the search term that they had used?

Shiny Bum Hole.

Should I be offended?
