The one thing that I dislike when I have to apply for something like a loan, something financial, an account where I get credit, or even a catalogue, is when they have to run a credit check on you.

I don’t like it because although my credit score is fine and dandy for my name it normally drags up all the nasty debts that the previous tenants have run up at the addresses we are in. The woman who lived at our current address before me has run up around £15,000 of debts from pretty much every kind of company you care to think of and then she scarpered.

We’ve been here three months now and we still get bailiff letters, court summons and knocks at the door for her. It is a good job all the important stuff was transferred from our old address otherwise we would probably not even be allowed to buy a TV licence!

I’ve written before of my disdain for having to pay to get these checks down myself, I find it very embarrassing if I have to have a company do the check and tell me over the phone, or by mail, that I have been rejected.

It’s less embarrassing if I do it myself before I approach a company, but even the fact that I can get a free credit score doesn’t stop me becoming angry at the people who think it is perfectly acceptable to run up bills and then scarper.

Regular readers of this blog will be well aware that my dad is a keen collector of coins, gold and gold coins. He has boxes of the things all packed away gathering dust in the back of a cupboard in the front room.

I probably shouldn’t have mentioned that on this blog, if anyone is reading this then they now know exactly where my dad hides his valuable gold coin collection. If it goes missing then he can blame me for blabbing. Just pretend I never mentioned that it is on the right as you walk into the front room…

My dad started buying gold from friends and family a couple of years ago, about the same time when the adverts were flooding our televisions, he would sit in his chair in his dressing gown with a cigar hanging out of his mouth as he told people “I’ll make you an offer that you won’t find anywhere else”.

This is why I call him Don Larry.

All joking aside, I think there might be something in this gold investing malarkey.

The first time I heard of the term gold IRA I incorrectly thought that it was an elite paramilitary organisation that was only open to very rich socialist nationalists. What it actually stands for though is Individual Retirement Account.

With the financial climate becoming quite unstable all over the world, we are seeing more and more people turning to other sources to invest in for their retirement. War, inflation & bank failures all have a detrimental effect on money and stocks, but it doesn’t seem to affect gold as badly.

I am assuming that this concept has floated over from America where they now have gold 401k accounts available.

Even if there is a small gold IRA transfer charge I still think this is something worth considering.

Finding a reliable Printing Service can be one of the toughest jobs when you have to do anything like putting together a publication or designing business cards. it is very much like webhost searching, you have to sift your way through a lot of rubbish ones before you get to the rare good ones, that are usually rather well hidden. If you do find one that is good then you should really be shouting it from the rooftops.

Remote Controls & an Electrical Conspiracy

I think something might have happened in the flat lately, everything that is electrical seems to be breaking and needs various parts replaced. Washing machine, toaster, DVD player, CD player, televisions, they are all becoming ill at roughly the same time.

I’ve had to buy remote controls for the TV, DVD player & CD player in my bedroom. I’ve had to replace the batteries for the three remote controls that we use in the front room (DVD player, TV & Sky box). I’ve purchased some TV Parts to try and fix the old television that I keep in the shed.

I had to buy a new ‘thing’ for my CD player to try and made it read and play CDs again. Thee washing machine is giving off a foul smell when it runs and no matter what setting you put the toaster at it still burns the toast.

And as I’m writing this the battery on my laptop appears to me going. Laptop batteries cost a fortune to replace.

Does anything else want to die? Intercom system? 55-inch TV in the front room? Maybe the fancy lights we have in the garden would like to start randomly lighting on and off like a rubbish disco?

I shudder to think.

My friend Adrian is going to be tying the knot with his girlfriend next year. Now this would normally illicit cries of happiness from me but I haven’t said where they are getting married … they are going to get married in Massachusetts in that there America.

I think they did that on purpose. I think Adrian knew about my feelings, told his girlfriend, and they thought it would be very funny to hold the wedding in America just to annoy and irritate me!

That only works if you forget the fact that his girlfriend wanted to have the wedding in America to say goodbye to her family as she is moving to the United Kingdom, and that I had to pretty much beg for an invitation.

I may not enjoy the egotistical nature of most Americans but I am certainly not going to miss an opportunity to go and visit the country. I want to do a lot of traveling someday and a few asia tours are definitely in my pipeline (me and Reiss have even spoken about one day going to North Korea). While I’m in America I might even check out the possibility of a canada tours, but that might need to be left for another time.

One place I’d love to visit would be Machu Picchu. I know nothing about the place but it looks so interesting and beautiful. There quite a few travel companies now that will set up a tour so you can travel machu picchu.

I’m definitely going to try and stick in some time to visit a few wrestling shows while I’m over in America, let us not forget that I am still a wrestling fan geek.

My mate Reiss likes to tell a story on his blog about his mum coming home one day from work with some scrubs for him to wear in bed because he was having trouble finding comfortable night attire .

It sounds silly but it is actually not a bad idea. It would not be the kind of thing for me, of course, as I don’t like wearing too much in bed. A pair of undies and that is about as much as I can handle.

Thanks to the internet you can even buy them online, which is nice because I’ve been invited to a night out next month and we all have to dress up as cartoon characters and I’m thinking a nice white lab coat will help me with my Dr Death costume.

Although I have wondered if Dr Death is more suited to halloween. Maybe I can go as in a sexy nurse uniform. Are there any nurse cartoon characters?

One of the biggest regrets that I have had since I was about six years of age was that I did not listen to the many optitionists that I was seen by when they told me that I should wear an eye patch over my bad eye and wear my glasses all the time. They promised that if I did then I’d have perfect vision by the time I was 16.

I didn’t do what they said and I am now 75% blind.

The reason I regret not listening to them is because I am not allowed to drive a car. I can not read a car registration number plate with or without my glasses so would not get very far on my driving test.

This is a shame because I like cars. If I had one I know I would have spent a fortune on customising my baby to the hilt. You can buy body kits online these days, from sites like carid.com, but I would have gone further and installed a kicking stereo and speakers, as well as loads of nice lights.

I have an uncle who used to do this a lot with cars when he was younger. He would buy a car, customise it a lot and then sell it on for a very nice profit. I used to love helping him install the modifications, spoilers were my specialities.

Of course not everyone soups up their car just to sell them on, I have friends who enjoy showing off their mods. I really envy them.
