Not Everyone You Meet Is Your Best Friend

Sunday, May 18th, 2008 | Dean Saliba Dot Com with No Comments »

As someone who writes a blog I do find myself spending a lot of time reading the blogs of other bloggers (normally when I should be writing my own blog!) and some of them have been bookmarked for repeated visits later.

One blog that I regularly visit is by Julian Radbourne who is a professional wrestling and MMA writer, we have spoken a couple of times via email and as I am also a fellow wrestling writer I like to keep up to date on how his writing is progressing to see if I can learn anything from him (he is far better at it than I am).

I visited his blog today, as I had not visited in about a week (I like doing that then I can read a couple of posts), and he had a post up about friendship.

I have no problem with Julian. Reading his blog over the years I have found that he is a very emotional person and will let his feelings come racing to the service, there is nothing wrong with this of couse, the era of men bottling up their emotion have long since gone.

I do feel that he looks into “friendship” a bit too much though. He meets someone online, talks to them via email and immediately adopts them as his best friend and will then get very upset if they do not contact him or do not return the same level of friendship that he shows them.

His latest post on his blog had him announce that he had deleted over 300 “friends” on his MySpace account as they were not really his friends. He had almost a 500 and obviously thought that all of them were best friends with him and were the kind of friends he could call at 2am with a problem.

I find MySpace a geat way to network and publicise your product but I would never use it for friendship.

This is not a personal atack on Julian, as I have said I do not have a problem with him and actually respect him as a fellow writer.

People need to be able to split up who are friends and who are merely acquaintances.

Reliable Cases

Friday, May 16th, 2008 | Dean Saliba Dot Com with No Comments »

Are you planning on going on holiday? One thing that you will need is a strong and reliable luggage case that will hold your clothes and possessions securely. After all how many of you have seen the shows on TV where the lady’s suitcase falls open, due to a dodgy catch, and her undies go all over the floor!

A web site such as Luggage Source would be a good place to start. They sell one of the best luggage cases you can buy, it is called Zero Halliburton and they have been the strongest and most reliable cases since the 1930s.

They do cases for everythng even you laptop and camera cases to brief cases to go to work with.

My Puppy Has A Name!

Friday, May 16th, 2008 | Dean Saliba Dot Com with 2 Comments

Well it certainly has been a manic 24 hours here in the Saliba household. I brought the new puppy home yesterday (OK I had it brought to me by my brother, don’t pick hairs with me Rodney!) and boy has she made herself at home!

She has never been away from her mother before (I’m not sure how good it is to give away or sell a puppy that has been cruelly yanked from its mother’s breast) so I am going to have to take it slow, I took her out every couple of hours and the poor thing urinated in fright every time!

She gets the hiccups everytime I bring her back inside because she is so scared. :)

She is refusing to be walked on the lead outside but she is happy to race with me down the landing and into the lift but then I have to pick her up and take her to the grass. Once she is on the grass though she is walking about and having a good old sniff around.

Inside is a different story she is into everything I do not think there is a part of he flat that she has not investigated yet!

She is also eating and drinking very well which is a good sign, she was a bit reluctant at first as apparently she is used to fighting her siblings to the food bowl, where as here she has her own.

Things have started brightly. :)

I had a huge reply to my plea to help me come up with a name for her, the breeder had named her Blackie but obviously I can not call her that so I put out a plea and it was answered by about 100 people on my blog,, via email, UKFF and Digital Point!

One of my favourites was from JLM from the UKFF who offered up Genki as a name, but when I initially told people their response was “Junkie? You’re calling you dog Junkie?” So sadly I had to drop that idea and after looking over the huge list I decided to go with one that was suggested via email.

Thank you to Mark Simmonds my new puppy is now called Roxie. :)

I’d like to thank everyone who took the time and effort to throw a name into the hat. I thought it was a fun thing to do :)

Help Me Name My Dog

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 | Dean Saliba Dot Com with 5 Comments

I had my dog of 13 years put to sleep about ten months ago after it was discovered, during an examination, that she had a tumour in her stomach that had gone undetected and had burst.

Well in the morning I am going to pick up my new puppy, a seven week old purebred staffordshire bull terrier. She is the only one left in the litter and she ether goes to a good home or to the RSPCA who will probably put her down.

She is black with a white patch on her face. My brother’s friend (the guy who breeds these dogs legally) has called it blackie in a lame attempt at humour, living on an estate with lots of ethnic people I can hardly keep on calling her Blackie.

So I am looking for a name for her.

I have racked my brains but can not come up with anything suitable (the best I could come up with was Scruffy after the dog on New Tricks but that sounds daft for a Staff) so I am opening the floor to people.

That is correct, I want you guys to help come up with a name for my new little friend.

To help you I will tell you that:

  • She is very friendly and puts her head into everything (don’t leave you bag around or she’ll be in it!)
  • She is rather dopey
  • She chews anything and everything in sight.
  • She loves her food.

If you can think of a name that will suit her then simply leave a comment to this post and I will paw (pun intended) over the names and announce the result. Your prize shall be that nice warm glow knowing that you helped name my new best friend. :)

No Rest For The Wicked

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 | Dean Saliba Dot Com with No Comments »

Yesterday was Monday and that is the day that my dad gets paid, obviously not wanting to leave the house he sends me to the nearest cash machine to get his money out for him.

I did not go yesterday, as I had things to do, and he threw a huge strop about it, despite the fact that he still has about £500+ in cash in an envelope in his bedroom and despite the fact that I could pick it up today if he wanted as I have nothing important planned today.

He asked me about 50 times yesterday why I had not gone to get his money, anyone would think that he needed to get the money out as soon as it goes into his account in case it disappears or something!

Today I asked him for his cash card and said I would go in about 30 minutes, he threw another huge strop because I was not going straight away. In the end I took the card and he started giving me orders (get the money out, go to the supermarket, go into a pound shop and buy some stuff, do this, do that, do the other).

No sooner had I walked in through the front door, after doing all these chores I might add, he started telling me to go to the local shop to get some things he had forgotton to tell me to get. I’m afraid I ended up telling him to fuck off.

And not even a thank you.

Spruced Up Design

Monday, May 12th, 2008 | Dean Saliba Dot Com with No Comments »

Well again I went nuts and decided to give my three blogs a nice tidy up, well hat is how it started but I actually ended up giving I Need Discipline and Wrestling Gazette complete new designs. I’m quite pleased with the results on the two blogs mentioned.

I also monetized the two blogs, which was something that I had failed to take advantage of in the past and I am actually very pleased with the results. I also gave htis blog a little bi of a clean up, you’ll notice it loads a hell of a lot quicker, I’ve also tightened the monetization of this blog better.

There is currently a special offer going on over at I Need Discipline where I am actually prepared to give away the modified template design, so you can benefit with better monetization of you own blog, in exchange for you joining my mailing list.

Head over and check it out.

Corporate Performance Management?

Monday, May 12th, 2008 | Reviews with No Comments »

Have you ever heard of corporate performance management?

I’m guessing some of you might not have heard of this. Corporate performance management (or CPM as it is commonly named) is a bunch of software that enables a company to understand its business performance much better.

Last year the company behind the software received the 2007 Innovative Solution Award, this goes some way to showing you just how successful this can be to you business no matter how big or small it is.

Google PR Update

Saturday, May 10th, 2008 | Technology with 2 Comments

If you ask many bloggers what they think about the Google PR feature they will most probably give a negative view on it. After all you want to build your blog for you and your readers, not to please some racist mechanical spider who crawls web sites dictating how it wants your blog/web site to look.

If you wish to make an income from your blog then PR is very important because most companies look at your PR to distinguish whether they will get a valid return on their investment in advertising on your blog.

I do not think PR should make a difference but sadly we are minority and advertisers demand PR so we have to bend to them if we want to take their money.

The recent Google PR update has hit Dean Saliba Dot Com incredibly hard, possibly harder than it has hit any other blog this time. For this recent update saw the blog drop from a PR2 blog to a PR0 blog.

This is where the PR thing becomes unstable an inconsistant. I update this blog on average twice a week now and I link build most days, all my content is unique and yet I drop to a PR0.

Look at my brother’s blog he updates about once a fortnight and does no link building at all yet he went up from a PR0 to a PR1 and he has only been running his blog for a month!

As you can imagine this has hurt me very badly as it was hard enough making an income with a PR2 blog, now I have a PR0 blog it is going to become that much more difficult.

It is not all bad news though, my I Need Discipline blog has risen from a PR0 to a PR1 (when I purchased the domain it was a PR3 but fell to PR0 because it was inactive).

I Finally Got Accepted By Pay Per Post!

Friday, May 9th, 2008 | Reviews with 3 Comments

Well it took me a hell of a long time but I finally got accepted onto the Pay Per Post review network. I must have applied about twenty times and they kept declining me each time but now I am in! Wooo! It feels like I have really accomplished something, like climbing a huge mountain or saving a life!

For those of you who have not got the foggiest idea what I am rambling on about (which is basically every post I make!) Pay Per Post is a review network that you join and advertisers pay you money for writing blog reviews on your own blog.

Pay Per Post is not like other networks, for a start when you are accepted they give your blog a score and this score will determine which review opportunities (known as opps) you will be allowed to bid for. I believe this has been done to stop small blogs bidding for everything and spoiling it for the rest of us.

If you wish to do this type of thin then I suggest that you sign up to Pay Per Post as soon as possible (you can do it via this link here). They have hundreds of opps on offer, as I write this they have 109 on offer and more are added and removed every single day.
